Khao Sok National Park in southern Thailand features the world's oldest evergreen rainforest, huge limestone cliffs, valleys and caves, exotic wildlife and breathtaking lakes.

On hikes through the rainforest or on a bamboo raft on the river, you can get to know the unique fauna of Khao Sok, marvel at limestone towers and listen to the sounds of the jungle. The park is home to countless birds and insects, colorful butterflies, wild elephants, deer, bears, marble cats and gibbons. In the middle of the jungle there is a coral cave and gigantic limestone cliffs that nature formed over 2 million years ago.

The absolute highlight of the national park, however, is the emerald green Cheow Lan Lake, which is best explored by longtail boat. Over a hundred islands adorn the lake and are waiting to be admired by you. A breathtaking backdrop for a canoe tour or a refreshing swim.

You can spend the night in the park in wooden bungalows in the forest or in floating wooden houses by the lake. Both are unique experiences. After an eventful day, relax on the veranda of your floating bungalow and enjoy the wild and romantic atmosphere. You are in one of the most beautiful national parks in Thailand.

Cheow Larn Lake Boat Tour

Cheow Larn is a man-made lake amidst the beautiful rainforest of Khao Sok National Park. The rainforest, is more than 300 million years old, home to an abundance of wildlife and surrounded by towering limestone mountains. Those who venture deep enough encounter its crown jewel: the Cheow Larn lake. It was constructed in 1987 by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand but, luckily, escaped pollution due to community efforts. Its waters are emerald and contrast the green of the rainforest beautifully. The lake features several channels reaching out into the jungle and each features unique natural wonders. Caves, waterfalls, viewpoints, hiking trails and animal as well as bird watching opportunities greet those eager to explore.

The main mode of transportation at the lake are long tail boats sending guests on excursions or to the various floating hotels dotted throughout the area. The hotels, also called raft houses, come in various styles: from very basic to deluxe. Most offer a restaurant and a little shop as well as lots of fun activities. Guests can take a plunge in Cheow Larn lake straight from their rooms' porch, explore on a kayak or paddle board or unwind during fishing. Spending time at the lake makes you enter a different, prehistoric world and offers ultimate relaxation. Even cellphones do not have reception at most parts of Cheow Larn.
